5th Meeting of the Irish Cytometry Society

4th Meeting of the UK - Ireland Core Managers group

17th - 18th November 2009, Science Gallery (Trinity College Dublin)

We are delighted to announce the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Irish Cytometry Society, now in its 5th year. Again, it will serve as a joint meeting for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, high content screening and related technologies. The meeting will be an exciting event and an excellent occasion to interact and share information across the various fields within cytometry and imaging.

This will be a two day event held in the new Science Gallery in Trinity College Dublin, in the very heart of the city centre. The focus for Day 1 will be Cancer and Stem Cells, with Day 2 being of more general interest across the span of these technologies, within clinical and life sciences.

As in previous years we are lining up exceptional international and Irish-based keynote speakers, in addition to oral and poster presentations from clinical and life science researchers.

On the program you can find the list of activities that will take place, including the 4th Meeting of the UK-Ireland Core Managers, but also some commercial talks and seminars. Here you can find the list of abstracts of oral and poster presentations.

Attendance to the meeting is FREE due to the generous donations from our sponsors. Register before Thursday 12th November.

The meeting is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science with 18 credits.

Irish Cytometry Society - ICyS

The Irish Cytometry Society (ICyS) has been created in 20th May 2005 in Dublin (UCD-Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research, University College Dublin).

As the user bases for Flow Cytometry has significantly expanded over the last few years and will continue to grow, it has been decided to organise and develop this society to discuss issues such as equipment, applications and research. The range of applications for this technology is very broad and the main idea is create a network of all the groups that are using flow cytometry in the diverse areas of immunology, cancer, zoology, veterinary, botany, microbiology, marine research, etc. This will hopefully lead to improved applications knowledge and use.

The ICyS should be a very important resource not only for the users but also the companies as it would allow them to see what is going on in the scientific community. We have approached all the major manufacturing companies including BD Biosciences, Coulter (Brennan & company), DAKO, and Partec (Alpha Technologies) to help us to establish this exciting network.

Since the beginning, two big meetings had been taken place:
- The Inaugural Meeting (20th May 2005) was a walk on different techniques and fields where the flow cytometry shows its potential. At the end of this meeting, the Irish Cytometry Society was founded.

- The Second Meeting took place the 30th January 2006, in Dublin (UCD-Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research, University College Dublin), sponsored by Dako and all the participants had the opportunity to introduce themselves and their groups, as well as to describe their labs, main applications and projects.
